The Summer Orchestra Camp is an exciting opportunity for PASD string players (violin, viola, cello, double bass) to expand their instrumental skills and musical knowledge during the summer! The camp will consist of three components: an orchestral ensemble, chamber group playing, and musicianship activities.
Students will learn and perform on their string instrument new repertoire in the string orchestral ensemble, giving students the opportunity to continue to work and develop their playing skills after the school year has concluded. Students will also be broke up into chamber groups. Chamber music is defined as instrumental music written for and played by a small ensemble, such as a trio or quartet. Groups will be assigned a piece of chamber music literature to learn, rehearse, and perform. Performing chamber music will provide the opportunity for students work in a team setting and learn personal accountability, and musical independence, as chamber music is often one player on a part. Students will work on and demonstrate respect, a developed sense of discourse, encouragement, and empathy towards their ensemble members. Students will also engage in fun games, songs, and activities that help expand the fundamentals and elements of music addressed in all PASD music classes, and how they apply to instrumental music performance.
