The Morrison Family YMCA and Charlotte United Team Up

UNITED TOGETHER

THE MORRISON FAMILY YMCA AND CHARLOTTE UNITED
TEAM UP TO BUILD PLAYERS AND PEOPLE

Charlotte United Futbol Club (CUFC) and the Morrison Family YMCA announced a partnership to give more kids the opportunity to compete in the world’s most popular sport. Starting at the Morrison Family YMCA this fall, the organizations plan to expand their collaborative soccer programs across the community.

“We both strongly believe that sports is an avenue to develop people as well as athletes,” says Laura Smith, Executive Director at the Morrison Family YMCA at Ballantyne. “Our Y has always offered kids the opportunity to play without the pressure of high level competition, but some players just want more. This partnership benefits all athletes by tapping into the experience of an established soccer club like CUFC, and provides a competitive option for players who are ready to elevate their game.”

The partnership expands the Y’s soccer offering to include a competitve soccer program for ages 8 - 18. Teams will compete with other soccer clubs in the area. Tryouts begin on May 18 at the Morrision Family YMCA. The organizations will host a parent information meeting on April 25.

CUFC will also support the Y’s efforts to further develop its recreational soccer programs, and will conduct player clinics and coaching education for the Y’s volunteer coaches. “The partnership is built on a relationship that started with the Harris Family YMCA nearly two decades ago”, noted Bill Finneyfrock, CUFC’s Executive Director.

“We are excited to grow our partnership with the Y,” said Steve Magee, Director of Soccer. “Both organizations share a philosophy of developing the individual through sport. That vision gives children and families a seamless transition from recreational to competitive soccer without losing the focus on sportsmanship, skill development and fun.”
